Originally from the high mountainous Andes of Boliva, Peru and Chile in South America, the Alpaca is an environmentally friendly animal and is estimated to be a 30% more efficient grazer than sheep. It can withstand drier climates and because of its soft padded feet, the Alpaca has low impact on soils. Most important for greater sustainable farming practices.
Alpaca Meat is lean and high in protein. It is a succulent, sweet, fine grained meat but not gamey. Cooked quickly over a high heat, 100% New Zealand Alpaca Meat will retain its natural tenderness and unique flavours. For the best results it should be served rare or medium and placed on a warm plate to rest for several minutes before serving.
